The year is 2035 and Charlie Noble invents N-hanced, an app for nano computers in the human brain. It promises to bring hope and prosperity to the downtrodden by making users instant experts on any subject. It will also free Charlie from his personal demons.

While still in the testing phase, one of his coworkers is murdered. Then one of his test subjects apparently commits suicide under mysterious circumstances. Before Charlie can find out whether the problem is his software, corporate espionage or something else entirely, his company's board of directors terminates the project, bringing his dream crashing down and reigniting his secret fears.

Wrongly accused of negligent homicide, Charlie flees government agents who threaten his life. He turns to his estranged friend, Jeff, who has abandoned all things high tech and is against everything Charlie stands for. Jeff is Charlie's last hope to help save him from disgrace and a life in prison—and to put N-hanced back on the track to changing the world.

What early readers are saying
Adrenalin-charged and hard to put down. Science fiction, mystery, action/adventure and courtroom drama. Stars makes it all work exceptionally well.
——Ray Walsh
——Lansing State Journal

This is an absolutely amazing story! I enjoyed reading it immensely. I think the book is a really brilliant achievement—fully imagined, thoroughly plotted, peopled with strong, interesting and believable characters. It has a clear dramatic arc... and it engages the reader’s emotions we become deeply invested in the outcome of the story and the welfare of the characters we are meant to care about.
——David Rumohr

Jonathan really knows how to keep readers on edge. It's been hard to stop reading this since chapter one. Very exciting! I hope there's a sequel because I certainly enjoyed this book!
——Valerie Cranfill

Jonathan Stars has managed to tell a compelling story that contains elements of science fiction, mystery and courtroom drama. Stars understands the inner workings of human emotions so his characters come to life. Combine this with his descriptions of the near future and you have a first rate story. I was hooked from the first page!
——John Couretas

Not being particularly savvy about deep technology I dove into this book expecting to be overwhelmed. Before long I got sucked in. By the time I was half way through I could hardly put it down. The courtroom sequences and interludes raced along and the author's descriptions of scenes were vivid. It was a great read!

In the early 1970's, Arthur C Clarke gave a talk at the Auditorium on MSU campus in East Lansing. I was in grad school there, at the time. He followed with a Question and Answers session. His movie 2001, A Space Odyssey had been released with great success a few years earlier.

That might've been my first direct and personal exposure to a bridge between science fiction and my own future. Isaac Asimov's books led to others. Ray Kurzweil has been a more recent one.

In the early 1980's, I sleuthed meetings of personal computer clubs in the area. Asked about an idea I had for innovative user interface. The local gurus were empathetic, but mostly blank on answers. One asked if I'd heard of Smalltalk by the Learning Research Group at PARC in Palo Alto. In the next quarter century, human interface with computers and smartphones have made progress. But nothing approached my idea.

It's a rare day, when I meet someone who has thought as far ahead as I have, and gone way beyond. The author of N-hanced has done that. What surprised me even more, is that he is not one-dimensional, like Bobby Fischer the chess player. He's also developed a similar ability in other performance like music, stand up comedy, and written dialog, to name a few.

I've seen this during LAMALUG meetings, and at the after-glow sessions at Pizza House in Hannah Plaza across from MSU campus. There, a small group with wild ideas, excited egos but sensible day jobs, explore imaginative scenarios for answers to questions of technology, culture, history and ethics; for elements in chapters in the author's next book.

I read the introduction to N-hanced. It is one of the most interesting I've seen, out of the nearly 1,000 books in my home. I told the author that. He said "That's the only part of the book that's real. The rest of the book is fiction, it's a novel." He hoped I wouldn't be disappointed.

Well, I'm reading about 10 books at the same time, and I write lots of notes. So it's a slow process. Today I read the first couple pages of this 'untruthful' book. I think it's better than the introduction. The intro is real, but it's also abstract. The book is anything but abstract. It's dialog and subject matter is presented in a way that seems more real than most people's current life. Don't know where the author developed this ability. But I'm glad he did.

In fairness, I've only read the first few pages. By the time I finish the book, my rating could go lower, or higher. So I'll say it's at 4.6 stars. Because I need to leave room in both directions, for that which I do not yet know, or cannot yet imagine.

My previous book reviews range from 3-5 stars, and average around 4. You can see them at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A22056T1VQQ326/

This was a pretty fascinating insight into where the world may be headed as far as technology goes. Interesting and not a little bit scary.
Interesting only from a point of being local to the Lansing Michigan area where the book is centered. A friend talked me into this because it was so local to uws, but I find the writing just so poor that I can't get through it. Too much dependence on pseudo technical jargon and local descriptions and too much getting bogged down in everything else. Not crisp and clear. None-the-less, if you are from the Lansing area, you may well find it interesting, but I would not recommend it.
Love futuristic books and this one is right up ther with the best. Had to force myself to put it down.
